The trekking distance from Gaurikund to Kedarnath is about 16 km, it takes 7-8 hours to complete this trek. However, alternatives like helicopter, horse, and palki services are available.   • If possible so Plan to reach Kedarnath Temple before 3 pm when the temple gates will close for visitors (in case of peak crowds, the gates will open at 5 pm).

  • Registration is mandatory for the Kedarnath trip, In case if you forget you can register at Sonprayag.
  • There is no need to stand in the long queue, a biometric facility is available just go to the official site of Char Dham and register yourself.
  • There is no fee for biometric registration.

7. CASH:-

  • You should carry enough cash,  please avoid online transactions via phone Pay or Google Pay, because of network issues.
  • The average budget for the Kedarnath trip is around 20-25k (INR) per person so carry cash accordingly.

  • Do not carry unnecessary things, and avoid heavy luggage, it is difficult for you while trekking.
  • Avoid khacchars (mix bread of horse and donkey ) and pitthu, try to complete your trek or journey by foot, with the help of helicopters.
  • Make sure your shoes/ sleepers have a heavy grip or are non-slippery.
  • Buy a BSNL SIM card which gives you better connectivity as compared to any other SIM card.
  • If you are carrying a camera make sure you have extra batteries.
  • Try to wear loose clothing with space to breathe and walking in would be perfect.
  • Try to start your journey early in the morning. The more you delay, the harsher the situation will become and this will slow you down significantly.

What is the best time to go to Kedarnath?

You will also plan to go, to Kedarnath? then make sure you are going between April to June because the weather is pleasant and the temperature usually lies between 10-15 degrees Celsius.  At this time Kedarnath Dham is less crowded, this would be a more peaceful experience.  In the monsoon season, there is heavy rainfall and an increasing risk of landslides and floods so it is not advisable to go Kedarnath due to safety concerns.  Spending your summer in Kedarnath will be a preferable idea.
